* so here we are again, lost in the stars.
* lynn and i slowly dig out of the boxes, one and two at a time.
* we both have really nasty colds and are getting on each other's nerves as a result.
* the kitchen looks like a kitchen sorta. tv's in place and all hooked up for "dancing with the stars".
*i have a new computer desk from ikea. it only took an hour and lynn's brain to make it work.
* the record rack's full but not in any kind of order.
* barack won, so everyone's relieved unless you work for GM.
* all that matters to me is that stan and ollie will be out of the white house and out of my annoyance zone.
* no one recycles here! nothing, nada, zip! throw it in the trash and they'll take it. at least 200lbs of cardboard in the landfill, by my hand alone in the last 2 weeks.
* phillies, eagles, flyers.....JESUS....talk about me being in sports hell...
* brother-in-law clarke baker came to visit from richmond this past weekend. he was coming to help unpack. so we all went shopping and ate a lot instead. that's the fritz way.
* saturday we went to ikea (again) and we met megan (niece, lee's daughter) there. she watched the "adults" shop. she lives close to us now in the lovely west chester area of philly.
* then, guess what?, we ate again.
* it's really fall for us for the 1st time in 3 years. colors, leaves, smell of them buring, cold, wind, illness.
* didn't i sell my house and move all my worldly possessions to nc to get away from this shit?
* life's rich pageant unfolds!

That is Eddie Belfour playing for a second tier team in a Swedish Hockey League. I watched this guy stop 43 of 45 shots on goal one night. Greatest athletic perfromance I've ever seen. He drinks too much and ends up in fucking Sweden.

We're off to the land of enchantment until the 30th of august. We will miss you all and we will eat shrimp and burp in all of your honor and more than once.

Here's a question to ponder whilst we are away.

If you knew you were going to die tomorrow and you could go any where in the world to eat your last meal, where would you go and what would you have?

Initially I thought I'd be going to a small Asian-fusion bistro in Oberlin Ohio to have sesame scallops over some kind of really strange ricey stuff with vodka-infused soy sauce.

Then Emily mentioned Pie-In-The-Sky, and I thought of the steamed mussells I had there in my other life. I'm still considering.....

The newest album from Gnarls Barkley is fantastic. Disagree at yor own peril.
Rockferry by Duffy is fantastic, not every song is amazing but they're all solid. A truly unusual voice in this day of everyone sounding like bee-on-say!
Found a real gem while out a-pirating. Son of the South by Toy Caldwell. Guitarist of the Marshall Tucker Band. He did this after leaving the Tucker Band. It's an interesting exploration of southern rock, jazz and swing. He's no longer with us and this c/d is a re-release. If you're interested...just ask.
Oasis....the second brightest moment of British Pop Music. Re-read that....yes, Oasis comes in 2nd only to the Beatles in the history of British Pop.
Go find some Joe Strummer and The Mescaleroes. Gone but not forgotten. Global A-Go-Go is your best bet.
WarPaint - the latest by the Black Crowes. James and I will be in attendance for Freak-n-Roll in Raleigh on 11-05-08 at the lovely Lincoln Theater. An amazing c/d by amazing brothers.
Speaking of The Robinson Brothers...Brothers of a Feather is pretty god-damned good as well. Magic Rooster Blues is my favorite.

I have a problem with child abuse and child exploitation that I never discuss with anyone other than Miss Lynn. Do yourself a favor, get out of my way if we're ever together and I see some one hurting or mentally abusing a child. Oh...and call for an ambulance for the abuser. Mr. Vachss has the same ZERO tolerance for it that I do but he lets his "hero", Burke, do the leg work.

i don't have many sports heroes left, being almost 53, but there are two that have NEVER let me down in the way that they have conducted themselves on and off the playing field or ice. 1 is sandy koufax, ever the gentleman and the greatest lefty to EVER pitch and #2 only because koufax came 1st, is mario lemieux. try making the point that someone was greater than mario in our house and see what it gets you. he must be so proud and i am so greatfull for his commitment to my hockey team. top five movies you wish you hadn't wasted your time viewing?

mine: 1 - There Will BE Blood (3 hours of Daniel Day-Lewis making some kind of stupid face.)
2 - Gandhi ( If he was this B O R I N G, it's a wonder that India became independent.)
3 - Kenneth Brannagh's Frankenstein (I cannot warn you strongly enough to avoid this beast.)
4 - Star Wars: Episodes 1-3 (Did Lucas NEED the $$$ this bad? Almost ruins the "first 3.)
5- I've saved the "best" for last, Citizen Kane. (Everyone who gives awards tells you that this is the greatest movie ever made. I have to assume that they have been told this and never actually watched this P.O.S. Hollywoood's oral history. I'd rather watch #1 twice in a row that watch this dog.

sitting here with miss lynn after more than a month off due to the "sugar blues". seems we're not immortal! least of all miss lynn. it's quite sobering to be forced to consider a life without her. no one not here knows how close we actually came to that and everyone here would rather not think about it, then or now. so, i celebrate the second chance or the eleventy-seventh chance to continue on with her.
she is my hummingbird and i've lived a charmed life with her.

i also like to take a moment to thank someone that made a REALLY bad decision in 1971. my eternal thanks to jeff ball, the goober that was dating miss lynn right before me, for not "knowing how to close the deal." jeff, if you're out there reading this, i owe you a drink and a steak dinner, you fool !
